How Can An Itchy Insect Bite On The Scrotum Be Treated?

My son has a bite on his scrotum that was red and itchy on Friday. I put caladryl lotion on it to help the itch. He played baseball Saturday and it became swollen. The swelling is gone but around the bite it s now a dark purple. He has no pain but I m concerned about the discoloration.

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hello, my name is Dr.Dorina Gurabardhi. I understand your concern.
Some advices that I can give to you are :
-Apply an ice pack to a bite or sting for 15 to 20 minutes once an hour for the first 6 hours.
-Try a nonprescription medicine for the relief of itching, redness, and swelling.
-An antihistamine taken by mouth, such as Benadryl or Chlor-Trimeton, may help relieve itching, redness, and swelling.
-A spray of local anesthetic containing benzocaine, such as Solarcaine, may help relieve pain. If your skin reacts to the spray, stop using it.
-Hydrocortisone 1% cream or calamine lotion applied to the skin may help relieve itching and redness.
-After the first 6 hours, if swelling is not present, try applying warmth to the site for comfort.
Hope my answer was helpful, if you have any other questions I'll be glad to help, thanks!
