Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
Good evening, I am writing you in regard to ANHEDONIA and would like to know what steps one needs to take to get the right treatment. For years I have been asking myself what has been happening to me and even consulted doctors but was always told that i had plain depressions etc. However, now finally i came across an article from the Stanford University that covers exactly my thoughts and symptons. hence, i am somewhat relieved although at the same time a bit scared of what might expect me and what needs to be done to in order to properly heal this sympton. Please advise - thanks, gordon
Hello and Welcome to ‘Ask A Doctor’ service. I have reviewed your query and here is my advice.
Anhedonia is a form depressive illness and can be managed with proper and timely treatment. You have to be motivated and it can be managed well with drugs and behavioral therapy. You can consult a psychiatrist and he will direct you accordingly. You might require drugs like SSRI and in addition behavioral therapy and counselling may be needed. You have to engage in activities and keep motivated. Yoga and meditation can help you a bit.
Wishing you good health.
Thanks.
