I m 21 and struggling with anorexia nervosa. Since January I have lost about 35 pounds, I went from a little over 125 to a little over 90 lbs. I ve lost a lot of body fat and don t get nearly enough protein since I m also vegetarian.. my bones and muscles always ache. I work it every day and don t take in close to enough calories I should. I m really worried about the pain I ve especially been around my tailbone, it hurts when I sit obviously cause I have almost nothing there but the skin around my tailbone has become almost rough and has really been irritating me when I sit or lay.. what does this mean and what can I do about it??
Hello and Welcome to ‘Ask A Doctor’ service. I have reviewed your query and here is my advice.
Anorexia nervosa is a curable disease and timely treatment is required. Consult a psychiatrist and start treatment. If left untreated then it can lead to unwanted complications like electrolyte imbalances and menstrual irregularities and even leads to infertility. You might require CBT (cognitive behavioral therapy) and drugs like SSRI. Avoid unwanted stress and anxiety. You can try relaxation techniques like yoga and meditation which help to an extent.
Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
