Hi,I am Dr. Alexander H. Sheppe (Psychiatrist). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
OK. I am a T.A. secondary (pastry, culinary dept. ) school teacher at a trade school. It is a very different job situation for me. I have worked in the food service industry for 40 years. I have taught before but this is a very different situation. Some of the students are not really into it and don t expect to persue any job in food service. That s ok, I just work with them and talk to them and be supportive. My situation is that my boss really thinks that I am useless and never hesitates to tell me so. I am anxious every day and sometimes it makes me forgetful although I have never burned a cake. He insults me in front of the students and their reaction are very different, it makes them sad for me. I am seeing a psychologist soon and will talk to her. I do take ambien (helpfull) at night and sertraline ( i don t know if it s helping) before school. I thought that it would calm me so I could only focus on the good stuff. I am just writing. Audrey
Hello and Welcome to ‘Ask A Doctor’ service. I have reviewed your query and here is my advice.
I have read your question and I understand your concern. First thing, I am very glad that you are going to see a psychologist. This will help a lot. Regarding the medicine you are taking, ambien is good to help with sleep and sertraline is very good for social anxiety and stressful situations. The best thing you can do is to solve the problem you have at work. Confronting your boss or start looking for another job. Living under constant stress with that type of boss may be very unhealthy. Your psychologist will help you more with this area. But it is very important to take action in this direction.
Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
