Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
My 90 year old mother has been on Paxil for anxiety for years. When she would decide to stop taking it and/or wean herself off of it, she would become belligerent and behave badly. She lives in AZ and I live in Ohio. She recently told me my brother, who lives in Chicago, told her she could take it to sleep better at night. I told her mixing the two is not a good idea. I told her it could be additive. My brother told me years ago that I pop them anytime I feel anxious . He has done cocaine and who know what else. It makes me sad that my family are drug dependent and have anxiety disorders. My mother recently wrote me a note and sent money. She is so insecure from getting on my bad side due to giving advice and demanding I change my life. She recently told me to sell my 2 horses and that I work too hard on our 5 acre farm. Her reasoning skills are very limited, even when she was much younger. It s a vicious circle because my mother and brother have beat me up verbally over the phone and in writing. I just want to be left alone and be as happy as I can be.
I understand your concerns, I would suggest you talk with your mother when she is in relatively good mood. You can recommend her to see a psychiatrist or psychologist who can then decide if she actually has anxiety disorder and whether it needs treatment.
Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
