How Can Arthritis And Insomnia Be Treated?

I had an EGD today and the doctor gave me Cadium (sp wrong) to sleep and said it may be something I would be interested in getting once a week for my arthritis, autoimmune diseases, and sleep disorder. I was trying to find out a little bit about it. Nothing is working at the moment.

Hello and Welcome to ‘Ask A Doctor’ service.
I have reviewed your query and here is my advice.

For arthritis, you will have to take care of yourself and medications will help you. If you want to depend only on medications, it will not help. Exercise regularly (exercise for the joints and stretch exercises), maintain weight, use heating pads when required, cold compress and ice packs also help. Medications like NSAIDs, Naproxen, Ibuprofen are effective. Some food trigger inflammation avoid or cut short on them, sugar, trans fat, MSG, Gluten and casein.
Insomnia can be managed with avoidance of mental or emotional stress, sleep restriction and staying away from bed room/lounges, training to keep oneself busy and constructive, behavior/cognitive therapy, socializing, learn to take it easy when not able to sleep and stay comfortable in other activities (listening to music, making videos, dancing, etc.) Medications like antidepressants and sedatives help. Stay in connection with a Psychiatrist for any emergency help, take care.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
Regards,
Dr. Nupur K.
