Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
How Can Arthritis And Meniscus Tear On The Right Knee Be Treated?
After 2 months of physical therapy after a Level 1 tibial plateau fracture, I developed instability of the right knee along with sharp pain when that occurs. An MRI showed a meniscus tear along with arthritis. I was told by a generalist I may need arthroscopic surgery or knee replacement. I have stopped PT and daily walks. Am doing RICE. Do you believe the meniscus will heal on its own with rest, ice, elevation, compression?
Meniscal tears may or may not heal itself depending on degree. The general rule is that we should wait for a good time, so that if it heals it self. If not surgery is done then. Mostly grade 1 and 2 tears heal itself and are not operated.
Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
Regards,
Dr. Mahboob Ur Rahman,
