How Can Arthritis Be Treated?

I take a multi vitamin, vitamin D and someone had told me that alfalfa is good to take to for someone who is just starting with arthritis in my knee. I ama 52 year old woman, very active, however this knee issue is preventing me from doing a lot of things. I've been to the docs and I have physical therapy 3 times per week. So I'd like to start alfalfa as well

Hello, my name is Dr.Dorina Gurabardhi. I understand your concern.
The treatment of rheumatoid arthritis include :
-Analgesics. These medications help reduce pain, but have no effect on inflammation.
-Nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs) such as naproxen
-Disease-modifying antirheumatic drugs (DMARDs). such as methotrexate.
-Biologic response modifiers.
-Corticosteroids.
Some advices that I can give to you are :
-Get enough sleep
-exercise
-use topical creams, gels, and lotions can be rubbed directly onto the skin to help ease painful joints.
-take fish oil supplements
-Apply an ice pack to inflamed joints to help ease swelling. Cold can also help to numb pain and relax muscle spasms.
