Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
My husband has had a previous back surgery and Incountered a lot of complications. That was seven years ago. He just had another MRI and consult. The results were more disc problems and show signs of arthritis. The surgeon suggest was to wait on another surgery until he could not take the pain anymore and continue on the pain men s from the pain doctor. He is ok with this. He works in heavy constuction and drive big equipment and large trucks, therefore he will only take ultram during the day since they don t seem to impaired his ability to concentrate or make him tired. He has also been given flexeril but he will only consider using it at night, but he says the medicine stays with him into the morning and leaves him feeling tired and drained. He asked the pain management doctor for a referral to a remuatoligist for maybe something that had anti-inflammatory properties and she said no and suggest nucynta which contains an opioids. What do you think? Go on his on to a rumatolgist and see what they say or would discontinuing the flexeril and trying the nucynta at night be an option?

How Can Arthritis Be Treated?
Hello, Nucynta (Tapentadol) is an opiod analgesic and so also is Ultram (tramadol). Continue with Flexeril (cyclobenzaprine), a muscle relaxant. Apply a local spray of analgesic QPS (quick penetration solution) in stead-lesser systemic effects. Alternatives could be a herbal product(local application) for long-term relief, to avoid NSAID induced nephropathy. Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
