How Can Arthritis Be Treated?

Hi, Doc, I just recently started on 5mg. oxycodone. I have kidney problems, so I can t use NSAIDS, and I appear to be allergic to acetaminophen when used regularly. (Itching and spreading rash on trunk. Since ceasing acetaminophen the itching has stopped and rash is steadily receding. I have diabetic neuropathy and arthritis which was steadily getting worse. Duloxetine seemed to work great on neuropathy, but arthritis (lower back and hips) kept worsening. The 5mg. oxy. works great on these and allows really restful sleep. However, at 5 mg. every 4 hrs., it s a hassle. Should I ask my sub. primary (reg. on vac. for a mo.) for an increased dosage, or would it be preferable to try a time-release first. Thanks. Mike J.

Hi,

If the frequency of dosing is an issue, you can try switching to Oxycodone-controlled release tablet, OxyContin taken twice daily. Please be advised to discuss this with your treating physician.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
