General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hi,
Yes, one problem with Gabapentin is weight gain. So, if your nerve pain is ok now , you can talk to your doctor to stop the drug gradually by decreasing dose (not abruptly ). It can also cause depression , low mode and loss of energy in some People .Howe'ver if you feel down I would personally like to get some basic blood tests to be sure every thing is fine .Also testing for thyroid would be an option as that can cause weight gain and low energy .Once all tests are normal we would make plan to stop the drug But first we should rule out other causes of your problem.
Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
