Hello I just discover that I have arthiritis and am looking to see what type of excerise would be best I look to run but feel that with the pain that is out. Lately Because of the pain I stopped my excerise and gain about 30 lbs. it seem that weight lost and excerise is needed. I want to stay away from pills and surgeries if possible. Have any suggestions.
Arthritis can be managed with exercise, weight control and bone strengthening supplements. It is very important to lose weight as it will help to reduce the weight on the knees and prevent further damage of your knee joints.
You don't need to run as it may damage your joints. Daily brisk walking for at least 45 mins is sufficient. Along with that maintain a healthy diet and stay away from food which leads to weight gain like processed foods.
Exercises which help to strengthen the hamstring muscles will help to strengthen your knee joint. You can consult a physiotherapist who will guide you regarding the exercises. Take a good calcium and vitamin D3 supplement which will help to strengthen your bones.
Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
Regards, Dr. Nazma Amman
