Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
I believe certian chemicals must be present in my blood so that an electrical signal can be directed to the proper heart muscles. Like Magnesium, Potassium, Calcium. Potassium I believe is low in may Americans. I have A-Fib and am concerned. Perhaps Sodium is included.
Electrolyte imbalance may cause heart rhythm abnormalities including AF. However our body has a tight regulatory system for Citrol of these and most people do not get such abnormalities. If you have any suspicion you can easily do your blood test to be checked for these minerals and electrolyte.
There are other causes more common for AF. And many patients do not have any cause found for AF.
Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
Regards,
Dr. Mahboob Ur Rahman,
General & Family Physician
