Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
I had a call from my doctor, an endocrinologist, asking me to come in because of some changes in the results of my blood tests. I don t have those results, but the question I do have is that I am having problems with atrial fibrillation. Is there a connection? I was being checked for the thyroid because a sonogram showed a second nodule. The doctor doesn t recommend a biopsy because of my age of 83 years old. I have had a triple bypass and now this a-fib problem - a problem which everyone my age seems to have.

How Can Atrial Fibrillation Be Treated?
Hello and Welcome to ‘Ask A Doctor’ service. I have reviewed your query and here is my advice. Yes, your thyroid gland may be hyperactive and it can precipitate an episode of atrial fibrillation. Atrial fibrillation in your age can be treated preferably by rate control which can be done by the following drugs: 1. Beta blockers 2. Calcium channel blockers 3. Digoxin if there is heart failure Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further. Regards, Dr. Muhammad Adnan Iqbal
