How Can Atrophy Of The Abdominal Wall Muscles After A Surgery Be Treated?
I had major back surgery last February in which they did two surgeries. The frontal sugery has left me with a distended stomach on the left side. After two ct scans i was told the nerves that feed my stomach muscles were most likely cut and caused the stomach muscles to astrophy. I have seen one general surgeon and two plastic surgeons (the latter of which was the director of the abdominal wall reconstruction program at UTSW in Dallas, Texas. No one seems to be able to want to take this on. I am not over weight and this has been quiet debilitating. Is there any solution at all?
Hello and Welcome to ‘Ask A Doctor’ service. I have reviewed your query and here is my advice.
Since the eminent surgeons have avoided a surgical solution to your problem, it is best to gradually do abdominal wall strengthening exercises, and in time the wall strength would be good. You may initially have to consult a physiotherapist for the proper exercises, and do them and continue with the exercises. It is good that you are not overweight.
Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
