Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
My fiancé has what I believe to be avoidant personality disorder , although I m only guessing because I haven t truly researched the symptoms yet. This did not show up until he was recently presented with a situation where he had to confront an adult grandson who was trespassing on my fiancé s boundaries to the point that leaves people astounded when they hear it. Since then there have been other serious signs that he cannot stand up for himself, or anyone else. He always believes he has to make changes to accommodate everyone else, including those who are way out of line in their requests and agendas. Is there a treatment for this condition? He s 74 yrs. old and I cannot see how he s even survived if he s been this way all his life.

How Can Avoidant Personality Disorder Be Treated?
Hi, Consult a psychiatrist and get evaluated. Cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT) is very useful in this condition. Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further. Regards, Dr. Shinas Hussain, General & Family Physician
