Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
How Can Bipolar Disorder And Depression Be Treated?
I have bipolar I disorder, and am presently in a depressed state after a mania, and the depression has been present for approximately 2.5 months without much relief even after one months use of Latuda. Note that Lithium was used to end the mania and I am still on it. What would be the purpose of taking Provigil?
The depression phase of bipolar disorder may be treated with a low dose of antidepressant-like SSRI. However, care should be taken and low dose for a limited time to be used. It must be done after consultation with the psychiatrist as SSRI may cause mania again.
Provigil is used for excessive daytime sleep and lack of attention. That is a stimulant drug and be used with specialist advice.
Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Dr. Mahboob Ur Rahman,
