How Can Bladder Dysfunction Be Treated While Suffering From An Enlarged Prostate?

My husband has an enlarged prostate that blocked the bladder & caused a serious infection. He ended up in the hospital on Dec 28th with a staph infection in the blood & an abscess on the brain. He still has a catheter in him and is sill on antibiotic infusions every 12 hours. Before he came home from the hospital the nurses tried to get him off the catheter but that did not work out. He is home now with a leg bag during the day & a urinary drainage bag at night. I would like to know what are his options if his bladder does not function properly ? .
