How Can Blastomycosis Be Prevented?

My son recently died of Blastomycosis. I just found out that another person who lives in the same apartment complex contracted it the same time and both died on the same date. My question is. Does this spore land on hard surfaces such as vehicles, furniture as we will be moving his stuff out and don t want to endanger anyone. Please advise

Hello,

Blastomycosis does not spread from person to person. A person is at highest risk of becoming infected by this fungus if they often visit places where the fungus that causes blastomycosis grows such as moist soil, leaves, and rotting wood. You may wipe the furniture and inside of any vehicle with a washcloth moistened in soapy water as I doubt that a standard disinfectant will be effective against the spores.

What a special person you must be. While you are suffering from such a personal tragedy to be concerned about the well being of others. I hope the happy memories you have of your son will be a comfort for you.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Arnold Zedd
