How Can Blocked Arteries Be Treated?

A few days ago I went to the hospital for a procedure to determine blockage of my arteries in the groin area and to possibly have stents put in. The doctor who preformed the procedure informed me that he could not put the stents in because I have almost total blockage in both arteries. My question is what can I expect next? Does this require extensive surgery to correct the problem and how dangerous is it to do this. If I do not have the surgery done what can happen?

Hello. Thanks for asking on Healthcaremagic. A blockage in the leg arteries could lead to swelling, pain in the legs, and clothes breaking off as an embolism and blocking other vital organs arteries like heart and lungs. They will give you oral anticoagulants if indicated. Other options could be a by pass grafting like that done in the heart. It is important to get it treated. Kindly consult your physician. Thanks.
