Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
I just had blood work done which showed high insulin levels when fasting. What can I do to lower this? My A1C is 4.5 and my fasting blood sugar level is 85. I have a high sensitivity to carbs. I try to eat around 50 carbs a day but should I reduce that amount?
Since you are consuming more quantity of carbohydrates, your insulin level could be high. However, fasting blood glucose with 85mg/dl and HbA1c level of 4.5% are well within normal limits. It is better to limit your carbohydrate intake and consume more quantity of dietary fibre along with complex carbohydrates to prevent diseases like diabetes mellitus.
Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
Regards,
Dr. Ashakiran S, General & Family Physician
