Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
I have Type 2 diabetes. Am on Metformin 2,000 mgr daily and Glimepiride 8/gr daily. Cannot regulate blood sugar levels. A1C is 8.5. I have been taking blood sugar levels 3x day recently, the count ranges from 49 to 250. Can something be triggering this instability other than diabetes? Thanks for your suggestions.
The instability of blood sugar is due to Glimepiride (Sulfonylurea). It is common for this drug to cause hypoglycemia. If you skip meals, there is a higher chance to get hypoglycemic.
You should schedule a good diet plan in order to organize nutrients intake throughout the day.
Should eat at least 5 times per day, including 3 large meals, and snack time in between and at bedtime.
And of course, keep monitoring blood sugar and record the results, we should understand when doing these fluctuations occur to change current therapy.
Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
Regards,
Dr. Albana Sejdini,
General & Family Physician
