How Can Bone Spurs On The Spinal Vertebrae Be Treated?
I have bone spurs on my C6 & C7 vertabres that are no longer able to be adjusted by my Chiropractor. It shoots sharp unbearable pain straight down my arm and middle/index finger and thumb. : (. Now I am experiancing grinding and catching of these spurs... tighening of the surrounding neck muscles that leads to knawling neck/headaches for hours and days.... I am 56yrs old and I have been physically active as I work in the landscaping buisness in Ohio. This work also includes snow removal in the winter so I am lifting up to 50lbs + of shrubs, mulch, salt bags etc. The type of work I do entails walking 3 to 12miles a day. I REALLY NEED RESOLVE on this condition.. I REALLY do not want surgery if I can avoid it. I need info on the effective, less drug related, ways of reversing damage and/or reducing any further deterioration of my skeletal vertibreas..... Thank you for sharing your experiances with me. Gretchen
Hello and Welcome to ‘Ask A Doctor’ service. I have reviewed your query and here is my advice.
By your history and description, I think you will end up in surgical correction only. Your symptoms (unbearable radiating pain down the arm and fingers, grinding sensations etc) are suggestive of large protrusion by spur. And this is impossible to cure by physiotherapy. No medicines are available to reduce this spur. So better to consult spine surgeon and get done clinical examination and MRI of cervical spine. Get done spur removal. Your symptoms will improve drastically after surgery.
Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
