How Can Bowel Incontinence Be Treated?

My sister had surgery for a twisted colon and they removed a section of her colun- maybe 6 inches She has lost quite a bit of weight and is down to 82 pounds; she is very miserable because she cannot control her bowel movements and also having trouble with eating too. She has been to several doctors and no one seems to be able to help her. is this normal?
