What nutrients for the brain should a patient be given that had a stroke (RE: a blood clot on the brain, given a clot buster, bleeding of the brain, unconscious, on life support, given nourishment via a feeding tube)? This happened to my wife a little over four years ago. I don t know that she was given any specific nutrients at that time. She was in the hospital a total of 74 days. We nearly lost her. We had absolutely no help from the hospitals (about what she should be given relative to nutrients) when she was discharged from the last hospital. Based upon my own internet research, I have learned that things that are important for this include magnesium, selenium, omega-3 fats (as in krill oil), B-6 vitamins, vitamin D-3, a good multi-vitamin, and pro-biotics. I an now giving her these. I am an 81-year-old retired geologist. I am the primary caregiver for my wife, and I have written a 35-page article entitled CHALLENGES OF BEING A PRIMARY CAREGIVER (based upon my own experience). I now give talks to stroke survivor clubs at the major hospitals in the city where I live (Atlanta). I would like to hear what you think about the nutrients that people like my wife should have received when she was in the hospital, and what she should be receiving now. After four years, my wife is doing just fair. She can t stay focused, and will never be able to drive again. We go shopping, to church, and various other places, but it is hard. She won t exercise, and can barely walk. We watch Jeopardy quite often, and she can sometimes answer questions that the contestants can t, but five minutes later she will say something that is just off the wall, and I have no idea what she is talking about. She is 73 years old. Charles R. Livingston Atlanta, Georgia YYYY YYYY@YYYY
