Hi doctor, my breast milk supply was good and sufficient for my doctor till last week. Now my milk supply reduced suddenly. From yesterday evening I am taking lactre tablet, having methi, saunf and garlic milk. Still my milk supply has not increased. Could you please let me know how to increase the milk supply. My daughter is 4 month old.

General & Family Physician, Dr. Vasudha's Response
Hello and Welcome to ‘Ask A Doctor’ service. I have reviewed your query and here is my advice.
You are taking most of the nutritional supplements for increasing breast milk. In addition, I would suggest a high protein diet with vitamins and minerals (calcium, iron) to improve your intake by 1000 cal./day. Shatavari powder mixed with a glass of milk helps. We would recommend Metoclopramide pills for this purpose. Consult your doctor for your specific dose. Apart from this, feeding baby every time she demands can help, as sucking by baby itself forms a stimulus for milk secretion. Drinking milk or other liquid food before feeding, conversing with baby while feeding and being in a fresh and positive mood while feeding are some important factors for increasing breast milk production.
Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
