How Can Bronchitis Along With Chronic Cough Be Treated?

My husband has been having issues with what we thought was bronchitis or asthma for the past year. He has a nagging dry cough. He coughs and passes out. He has seen several doctors, been put on steroid inhalers, prescription cough syrups and nothing seems to make this go away. He just has various stags of better and worse. His family has a history of heart issues. We are at our wits end and don t know what to do.

Hello,

As per your clinical history is concerned, please follow like this:

1) Do a clinical examination by your Doctor [pulmonologist] and do few investigations like [CBC with differential, Chest X-ray, Sputum RE/ME/Culture, & Pulmonary function test] to confirm exact pathology.
2) Do take all prescribed medications as advised by your Doctor and add any specific medication as per test result only.

Do follow few lifestyle modifications like this:

1) Try to avoid cigarette smoke. Cigarette smoke increases your risk of chronic bronchitis.
2) Get vaccinated. Many cases of acute bronchitis result from influenza, a virus. Getting a yearly flu vaccine can help protect you from getting the flu. You may also want to consider vaccination that protects against some types of pneumonia.
3) Try to wash your hands. To reduce your risk of catching a viral infection, wash your hands frequently and get in the habit of using hand sanitizers.
4) Try to wear a surgical mask at work and in crowds.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Uday Nath Sahoo
