How Can Bronchitis And Chronic Cough Be Treated?

I have had bronchitis but am about over that. I still cough phlegm up occasionally because it s loose. However, I am prone to have an out of control coughing attack when something like a crumb hits a certain place in my throat. It s scary to say the least because I have no control, can t talk, and can hardly breathe. It s very embarrassing because it s so intense. Sometimes if I feel a tickle there, I can grab some water and ward it off, but it difficult to get it in time. Is this normal? It has happened about several times this year.

Hello and Welcome to ‘Ask A Doctor’ service.
I have reviewed your query and here is my advice.

If this is the allergic condition and it causes a cough then it is part of the condition but, it is not normal and nothing to worry, it is the self-limiting condition. Just to minimize the symptoms have some hot drink, you can even have pure honey, and second-generation antihistamine can be tried, like Levocetirizine.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Akhtarhusain
