Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
my eleven-year-old daughter has every sign and symptom of burning mouth syndrome. I ve read where that burning mouth syndrome doesn t affect children. The doctors still think it is burning mouth. She has had every blood test out there. She is very healthy. She just gets these awful, painful patches on her tongue. It comes and goes about every 2 weeks. Some weeks are more painful than others.
Your daughter has symptoms of burning mouth syndrome which seems to be due to dehydration, hot and acidic food, vitamin deficiency like vitamin B12 and folic acid. Need not to worry. I would suggest you avoid hot and spicy food. Drink plenty of fluids. Apply Orabase gel to prevent irritation and exaggeration of symptoms. If the condition doesn't get better in three to four days, then consult oral pathologist or dentist for proper examination and to rule out the condition. The doctor may prescribe drugs like sucralfate, gabapentin, and antibiotics. Do warm saline rinses two to three times a day and do hydrogen peroxide rinses mix with an equal amount of water twice a day.
Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
Regards, Dr. Harry Maheshwari
