How Can Burning Sensation In The Esophagus Be Treated?

During dinner I ate a piece of spicy pumpkin bread & it felt like it got caught in my esopogus just below my neck. It was burning. I did not try to drink anything to wash it down. I kept swallowing to get it down. Breathing was ok, no other pain. I stood up & got a couple little burps out and after a minute or two it went away. This has never happened before. I have barrets esophogus. I was able to finish my applesauce. Other than a little indigestion no other symptoms. Was it just stuck or Is there anything to be concerned about? Thank you

General Surgeon 's  Response
Hello and Welcome to ‘Ask A Doctor’ service. I have reviewed your query and here is my advice.

This seems like acid reflux. You can take antacids, like Pantoprazole or Omeprazole. Sucralfate syrup has shown good results in acid reflux, especially in patients with Barrett's esophagus. Avoid spicy food stuffs. Routine followup with a gastroenterologist is recommended.

Wishing you good health.

Thanks.
