Hi my name is Sharon my husband has been diagnosed with stage 3 cancer of the larynx and vocal cords. he also been receiving dialysis for renal failure for the last 8years. Were told that they would have to remove his voice box and vocal cords, with treatments of chemotherapy, radiation treatments. We go back 2 weeks later they said that my husband was not in good health to have the surgery or the chemotherapy. they could only treat him with radiation treatments. my husband has lost a lots of weight over the years and can hardly walk, doing the dialysis treatments. his voice his almost nonexistence . will the radiation treatments help him in anyway. the only thing the doctors said is this the only choice they could take. Can u tell me why, and what are his chances. Thank you
Hello and Welcome to ‘Ask A Doctor’ service.
I have reviewed your query and here is my advice.
As per my clinical experience, the treatment available for your husband would only be Palliative and supportive (not curative) to ease some of the symptoms. So far as the chances of predictable outcomes are concerned, I need to evaluate his clinical condition with supportive documents to guide further more precisely.
Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
Regards,
Dr. Purva Patel
