A 6 year old boy has been diagnosed with cellulitis of the foot following a puncture wound 2 days ago. He received his DTaP vaccine at age 5. Which of the following oral antibiotics would be most appropriate for treatment? • Amoxicillin (Amoxil) • Cephalexin (Keflex) • Penicillin VK (Veetids) • Trimethoprim/ Sulfamethoxazole (Bactrim)
Hello and thanks you for your query. I am Dr. Rommstein and I will try to help you as much as I can with my answer.
The best solution would be combination of cephakexin 3x1g and metronidazole3x500mg which should cover all possible causes. However,if there is progression he may need intravenous antibiotic and cast immobilization. Also he should apply cold compresses.
I hope I have answered you query. If you have any further questions you can contact us. Kindly regards. Wish you a good health.
