Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
How Can Chronic Bronchitis And Breathing Difficulty Be Treated?
I have had bronchitis for the past week and am on two antibiotics, prednisone, ventolin, atrovent, and advair. In the last three days my cough from my bronchitis has gotten worse and as a result despite wearing a feminine pad I have been wetting myself so bad that I have had to change clothes two times a day. I am also not sleeping on the prednisone and as a result have been having increased seizues. It is also important to note that I am completely IGA deficient and have IGG subclass 2&4 deficiency that I am on weekly immunoglobulin injections on a weekly basis. I feel that I get more relief for my breathing and coughing with this bronchitis through nebulizer treatments and IV Prednisone to the point that I don t feel like I am going to pass out and I feel less weak. I went back to the ER yesterday at 4:00 in the morning as I couldn t breath and told them everything that I mentioned here and they did nothing. I am now at a point where I am very depressed. What would you recommended given eveything I just explained to you?
If you have a nebulizer at home then you can use it to help relieve the discomfort in your chest. The persistent coughing may be an acute bronchospasm which would require nebulization or the use of the Ventolin inhaler. The nebulization may need to be repeated if there is no relief, the same for the inhaler.
If there is no relief or there is worsening, then you need to be seen by a doctor as soon as possible because oxygen may also be required.
A mucolytic to help break up mucus in the chest so that it can be easily expelled may also be helpful eg Bisolvon, Mucomyst, Guaifenesin.
Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
