How Can Chronic Constipation Be Treated?

Good evening, I m a 27 yr old female. Have been dealing w constipation for 9yrs now. I get so backed up, every 6mos or do my stomach will start to bulge like I m 8mos pregnant, and I ll have a very painful event of back to back bowel movements, and latterly fill the toilet. Past year, my energy has gone, I ve gained over 40lbs in under 2months. I ve been having a lot of anal bleeding, along with bloody stools, sometimes bright red, sometimes dark purple. It s not blood from hemroids, I ve been checked, but lost insurance before my next appt to do more test. Some stools will be black, others are complete white, or there dark w either white spots or tan spots. Also, I have a mucus drainage sometime. My stools are almost always little balls, no bigger then a half dollar coin. I get very painful sharp pains in lower abdomen before each bowel movement, also after eating, my top stomach area will have a horrible dull pain that spreads to my sides n back. Also right between my belly button and bottom of rib cage, there s a bump, sometimes it s visible, sometimes not, but can feel it.

Hi,

You can try laxatives like Lactulose or sodium picosulfate as a first line of management. Include more fiber rich foods in your diet. You can also try newer laxatives prucalopride also. If symptoms persists, you may require bisacodyl suppository or lactulose enema. Wishing you good health.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
