Hello,

It is important to have a check of the child to rule out pneumonia as the cause of cough. Cough for a week is not chronic, it should last for more then 3 weeks to be considered prolonged. It is common with children having a viral infection to continue with the cough and loss of appetite for a while after the infection has resolved and this might be the case with your son but first he needs a visit with the doctor to rule out more important infections.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Take care

Regards,
