Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
I have had a cough for over a week. To me it seems like I have a post nasal drip. I don t have to blow my nose much but at times , I cough until I gag and /or throw up. I have high blood pressure so I am limited to what I can take over the counter. I am Canadian so my insurance is limited. Should I be going to see a Dr or is there something I can do on my own?
You are having upper respiratory tract infection on primary look of provided history. As you are having hypertension also, it is better not take phenylephrine containing Benadryl like drug which raise blood pressure.
Levocetirizine can be safe decongestant for your case. Salt water gargle can be done with warm water three times a day. Drink more water and avoid excess spicy foods, Vitamin C lozenges chewable is also useful.
Your workup includes: -CBC -Auscultation -Chest x ray if needed
Consult the physician for examination and get prescription.
Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
