How Can Chronic Cough And Wheezing Be Treated?

Hello, I have had a chronic dry tickly cough which sometimes causes me to regurgitate for over 2 months now. At night, the symptoms are worse and as soon as I lie down, I have terrible wheezing. I have seen a doctor who prescribed a 10 day course of antibiotics (Biaxin) which did absolutely nothing to alleviate the problem and also a corticosteroid nasal spray (Apo-Mometasone) which I have been using for the past week, again, with no relief in sight. I have gone for chest and sinus Xrays but have not received the results yet. What can I do to alleviate this problem which is causing me a lot of sleepless nights?

Hi Dr.,

As per your query, you are having symptoms of chronic cough and wheezing which seems to be due to bacterial infection and impaired immunity due to respiratory infection.

I would suggest you to take steam inhalation two times a day to prevent mucus formation. You should take diet rich in multivitamins, fruits and take multivitamin tablet as well to boost body immunity.

Drink plenty of water to rehydrate yourself. Do warm saline gargles. Visit ENT specialist once and get it examined and go for blood and sputum test and start treatment accordingly.

Take proper course of antibiotics along with anti-inflammatory medications after proper prescription. Avoid outside food.

Hope your concern has been resolved.

Best Wishes,
Dr. Harry Maheshwari
