How Can Chronic Cough And Wheezing Be Treated?

I have had bronchitis & sinusitis for about 4 days and took over the counter meds for them without resolving the problem. Went to the doc and received Rx for Azithromycin (& Proair for some SOB that I have been having). I have been on prednisone for a year due to poss polymyalgia rheumatic. The dosage is being tapered off and I am now down to 4 mgs/d. My problem now is the wheezing that occurred throughout the bronchitis episode which decreased my ability to sleep through the night is continuing and seems to me to be worse. Coughing persists with little production of mucus. Early this am tried several home remedies that helped a little bit/short term. Any suggestions to stop the mucus formation ?

Hello,

As per your query, you are having symptoms of chronic cough and wheezing which seems to be due to bacterial infection and impaired immunity due to respiratory infection.

I would suggest you to take steam inhalation two times a day to prevent mucus formation. You should take diet rich in multivitamins, fruits and take multivitamin tablet as well to boost body immunity.

Drink plenty of water to rehydrate yourself. Do warm saline gargles. Visit ENT specialist once and get it examined and go for blood and sputum test and start treatment accordingly.

Take proper course of antibiotics along with anti-inflammatory medications after proper prescription. Avoid outside food.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Harry Maheshwari
