Hi. So I ve had a chronic cough for a year, maybe a bit longer. A year ago I was diagnosed with HBP & and had a check-up on it 4 months ago and also for my lymph nodes because they have always been swollen. My doctor changed my medicine (I was on Lisinopril) because she thought that s what was the cause for my coughing. It s been 4 months and my cough still hasn t gone away. She also ordered another blood test. I got the results the next day and they said everything looked good except that my WBC count was a bit high. Also when I squeeze my breasts together, my breastbone feels sore or bruised. Sometimes I ll hear it pop. It also starts to feel that way if I do any physical activity, lift something heavy or exercise, like a push up or something.
You should first have a chest x-ray to rule out serious lung conditions. If the chest x-ray is normal then you may use Omeprazole 40 mg a day and Loratadine 10 mg at night.
If these do not help in 2-3 weeks you will need to have spirometry to check for COPD.
I hope this answers your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
Regards, Dr. Antoneta Zotaj, General & Family Physician

How Can Chronic Cough Be Treated?
Hello, Chronic cough is caused by several conditions from COPD (if you are smoking) to post nasal drip (from an allergy) and GER (acid reflux from the stomach).
