Have a chronic cough that gets worst if I talk. A new symptom is I am belching a lot. This has been going on a long time. Was tested for a number of things by having a number of lab test done and a chest xra, all clear. Could this be acid reflex?

How Can Chronic Cough Be Treated?
Hello and welcome to ‘Ask A Doctor’ service. I have reviewed your query and here is my advice. Yes chronic cough can be due to acid reflux especially when other causes have been ruled out. For this I will advise you to: 1. Avoid tea, coffee, oily and spicy food. 2. Avoid citrus fruits. 3. Among medications take a proton pump inhibitor like rabeprazole and a prokinetic agent like domperidone. 4. Don t lie down at least for 2 hours after any meal 5. Don t drink water for at least 2 hours with any meal. I hope I have answered your query and this will help you. Let me know if I an assist you further. Regards, Dr. Amit Jain
