Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
I am recovering from pneumonia but still have a bad cough which has been with me a month plus. The cough gets worse in the evenings and sometimes feels as though my lungs are burning. Have been through two rounds of antibiotics. Why am I not getting over this cough??
Certain symptoms of pneumonia persist for sometimes in spite of the infection being cured. A cough is one among those symptoms it may take up to six to eight weeks after treatment of pneumonia. So if you are otherwise fine you can just take some home remedies for it.
You can use some cough suppressant for some time. However other courses of a cough should not be ignored and if you steel having temptation or shortness of breath or phlegm with a cough or your chest whistle. Then you must see your doctor. If otherwise okay, then just relax. Get some home remedies, some cough syrup. Hopefully, it would go away in a couple of weeks.
Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
Regards, Dr. Mahboob Ur Rahman
