How Can Chronic Cough Be Treated?

My 47 year old son has a stroke about 3 years ago and it affected the entire right side. He is still being tube fed. He does take some food by mouth but its puree. About a year ago he has developed a chronic cough that has gotten progressively worst to a point that I can t take him to tviche movies, church or any other events without his loud cough. The cough is making him weak and its hard to listen to him because it sounds like he is in pain. He is taken medication for high blood pressure and kidney anti rejection. I would like to know if Jevity 1 cal could be causing the cough.

Hello and Welcome to ‘Ask A Doctor’ service. I have reviewed your query and here is my advice.
I do not think the cough is due to the Jevity 1.
I think it is either due to prolonged tube feeding, or microaspiration, or a chest infection.
It would be better to get him examined by a doctor there to confirm which of these is causing him trouble.
Meanwhile an x ray of the chest needs to be done.
You can upload the x ray and I will try to help you further from there.
Best wishes, Dr Mittal
