General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hello,

A cough can be of two types -
A productive cough in which sputum is coming out of the respiratory tract.
Causes are lower respiratory tract infection. It requires antibiotics along with expectorants like ambroxol and bromhexine.

A non-productive cough is an only dry cough. Causes are upper respiratory tract inflammation. It requires cough suppressant like dextromethorphan and noscapine along with salt water gargles. Levolin syrup will only be required if there is difficulty in breathing.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Hiren Hirpara
