How Can Chronic Cough While Suffering From A Heart Disorder Be Treated?
My husband was released from the hospital this week following a stroke. He was also dx with heart issues. He is to follow up with his internist and cardiologist. The problem: he has a dry cough and needs to take something over the counter since we cannot reach the doctor today being Christmas. He is taking eliquis, atorvastatin and a generic of Coreg. Will Wal - Finate purchased at Walgreens for allergy symptoms be safe to take? Local pharmacist recommended Mucinex DM but another local pharmacist warned against it and suggested calling the cardiologist. I don t know how to proceed.
onset of ACE inhibitor-induced cough ranges from within hours of the first dose to months after the initiation of therapy. Resolution typically occurs within 1 to 4 weeks after the cessation of therapy, but cough may linger for up to 3 months. The only uniformly effective treatment for ACE inhibitor-induced cough is the cessation of treatment with the offending agent.
not an ACE inhibitors then you can use mucinex DM .
No improvement seen then you may have a consultation with cardiologist for further management and followup.
