Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
A family member who lives in Florida, USA, has been taking Lomotil for the past 15 years. She suffers from cronic diarrhea. She has had an operation where some of her intestines were cut off. The problem is that she went to her pharmacy to refill her prescription (which she has been refilling for the past 15 years) and they told her that in the state of Florida Lomotil has been discontinued . She knows that Diphenoxylate is the generic to Lomotil. She prefers to keep taking Lomotil. Is there a difference? How can she be able to purchase Lomotil? With a prescription from her doctor can she get it from another state?
Hello, my name is Dr.Dorina Gurabardhi. I understand your concern. Lomotil and diphenoxalate is the same medicine with different brand names. She can take it with prescription in other different countries. Hope it helps. Kind regards!
