How Can Chronic Diarrhea Be Treated?

my wife has sever diarrhea. she has Alzheimer s disease and takes memantine 10 mg, quetiapine 25mg and escitalopram 20mg. She only recently experienced the diarrhea and has been taking these drugs for five years. I have given her an over the counter anti diarrheal drug, but it doesn t seem to help. Any suggestions?

Hello,

Since when she is suffering from diarrhea. If she is suffering from more than fourteen days called chronic diarrhea. Causes for chronic diarrhea is due to drug side effects or malabsorption or food allergy or irritable bowel syndrome.

If it is acute, mostly due to infection. Please avoid spicy food and caffeinated drinks. Use tablet Oflox ornidazole twice a day for five days. Take tablet sporulac thrice a day for five days. If symptoms not improved, please consult your doctor he will examine and treat her accordingly.
