How Can Chronic Idiopathic Urticaria Be Treated?

45 years, 1 day - have had chronic idiopathic hives since April. I am not allergic to anything. There seems to be two types of these types of hives, one with auto immune issues one with out. The one with auto immune, seems to happen to those with a family history or personal history of endometriosis (I had it, as did my mom and grandmother - no longer suffer from that since hysterectomy.) No spleen, no gallbladder, no appendix, no tonsils, no ovaries or uterus anymore either. I was being treated with occasional steroid shots and prednizone and even IV Benadryl. In/out of ER, Dr s offices. Had a MS scare because of side effects from prednizone. Was in hospital for 5-1/2 days the beginning August and missed a lot of work. They did spinal tap to rule out MS. Since spinal tap on 8/3, I can t get fully rid of a headache above and under right ey and have extreme leg pain, on lower right leg. They say the leg pain is neuopathy. Also, I have never been so exhausted in my life. Extremely low B12, D and magnesium, bruising easily. Now when hives come I swell up. Be it my face or my legs they swell to twice their size at least, and recently my legs turned almost greyish, was told that that was the capillaries breaking as leg was so swollen. There is a weird purple marking darker than any hives just above my ankle that is almost like a bruise, but shaped weird. I start Xolair as hives treatment on Tuesday. I just want to be me again. Even with the headache medicine they gave me with caffeine and the vitamins, I am so tired. Neurologist said maybe try rheumatologist for chronic fatigue - I also have bad arthritis in knees and some showing in back and see a chiropractor. I think I am just feeling crappy from steroids.

Hello,

There are a few utricaria's. There is the autoimmune. There is also if you just have a lot of histamine. There can be utricaria if you have a lot of immunoglobulin E or if you have a lot of Immune Factor 5. These each have very specific treatments. The immunoglobulin E and factor 5 have antibody shots you can take to neutralize them. Histamine stabilizers or a lot of antihistamine is helpful in those with a lot of mast cells that contain histamine.

Hope I have answered your query.
