How Can Chronic Insomnia Be Treated?

I have chronic insomnia, I m 71 and this has been a problem for 50+ years. My Dr and I have tried many melds but I have severe side effects to most. Severe sleep sweats and sleeping for 1 1/2 hrs to every 2 hrs and waking up wet and extremely cold. I change clothes and bed linens and it tales up to 1 hot or longer to return to sleep before this happens again. This occurs 2 to 3 times a night.

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hi,

I can only imagine how difficult it must have been for you. Have you tried Melatonin? As it is naturally present in our brain and least likely to have side effects.

Your symptoms also make me ask you if you have night terrors? Prazosin may help you with night terrors if you have them.
I would suggest you visit your doctor and discuss this options with him.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
