How Can Chronic Laryngitis Along With Acid Reflux Be Treated?

I have chronic laryngitis. It seems to act up everyyear around this time when I get a flu. I have acid reflux disease. I never really took it seriously.. I never believed the doctor when he explained to me what was happening. Now I know he is right. So any way I’m taking regularly a h2 blocker, just started yesterday. I’m also taking echinacea for my flu. I’ve decided to stop talking for at least one full day. I may try longer, see how it goes. Why does it feel like if I don’t speak my voice will give out altogether? I’ve never done this before. Will not speaking help my voice get better. ? I

Hi Dear,

Understanding your concern. As per your query you have symptoms of chronic laryngitis along with acid reflex. Need not to worry. I would suggest you to

- Do warm saline gargles and betadine gargles alternatively.

- Take bendryl twice a day and avoid spicy and heavy food specially at night.

- Do light walk after meals.

- Take steam inhalation on daily basis.

Consult ENT specialist without any delay because infection may spread down to respiratory track and cause lung infection also . Doctor may order certain tests like throat swab test , CT scan , viral culture test and blood test to confirm the diagnosis . Doctor may prescribe antibiotics at least for 10 day , decongestant and expectorant. Doctor may also refer you to gastroenterologist.
