How Can Chronic Pain In The Knees Be Treated?

I am a 70 year old female with osteoarthritis of my right knee and am scheduled for a knee replacement in a few weeks. I have been given a prescription for Tramadol-acetaminophen 37.5-325 for severe and chronic knee pain. The knee also buckles painfully, which has been getting more frequent. I often have nausea or other negative reactions to drugs and have anaphylaxis to fluoroquinilones (Avelox, Cipro, and other antibiotics), so I am always apprehensive when I take something new. I just took my first dose of Tramadol, a single pill, following a meal to avoid nausea. How much time will elapse before I know if I am having a reaction? Is it better to remain in the main level of my home for a couple of hours vs. using the stairs?

Hello,

Thanks for your query on HCM

"As"per your clinical history is concerned please follow like this -

1)Do take pain killers with a PPI[Pantoprazole]to avoid complications.

2)Discuss with your treating Doctor about [Cortisone and Lubrication injections]inside joints.

Do follow few lifestyle modifications like this -

1)Do exercise and exercise can increase your endurance and strengthen the muscles around your joint, making your joint more stable.

2)Try to lose weight. Being overweight or obese increases the stress on your weight-bearing joints, such as your knees and your hips. Even a small amount of weight loss can relieve some pressure and reduce your pain.

3)Try to use heat and cold to manage pain. Both heat and cold can relieve pain in your joint. Heat also relieves stiffness, and cold can relieve muscle spasms and pain.

4)Apply over-the-counter pain creams. Creams and gels available at drugstores may provide temporary relief from osteoarthritis pain.

5)Use assistive devices. Assistive devices can make it easier to go about your day without stressing your painful joint. A cane may take weight off your knee or hip as you walk. Carry the cane in the hand opposite the leg that hurts.

Hope that helps
